December RS Presidency Message

Dear Sisters,

The Christmas season is upon us! I'm so grateful for this special time we have to focus on the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Sometimes it is easy to forget Him with the hustle and bustle of making treats, planning special meals and family gatherings, writing out Christmas cards, shopping and wrapping presents, getting our homes ready for Christmas, and all the little details that go with these tasks that we, as women, undertake. I hope and pray that we can slow down this month, and ponder the reason for this season. Let's think about family relationships and teaching our children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews what this season is really about. They all know Santa, but do they know the full story of Christ's birth and what was happening in and around Bethlehem, as well as in the Americas during that time? We have received many words of instruction from our church leaders in the last year through General Conference on the importance of teaching and fortifying our children.

There are some very sweet pioneer Christmas stories in the New Era for this month. It is touching to read these stories about how the Saints had Christmas with so little, but they were still able to find joy. You can find these stories by clicking:

I urge you all to read the talk that our bishop has chosen for the Teachings for Our Times lesson taught on the fourth Sunday this month. It is entitled Of Things that Matter Most by President Dieter F. Uchtdorf. He gives us wonderful counsel on "slowing down" our lives and focusing on the things that are most important and will lead us back to our Father in Heaven.

As a presidency, we pray for you and love to serve you. I pray that you will all find Christmas joy this year. Have a wonderful December!

Love,
Kristal
